Toy Story 3 Video Game Review: Disney's Most Promising Pixar Game - “We knew we couldn’t just do a ‘see the movie, play the game’ kind of treatment"
Pixar Animation Studios: Pioneers In Animation
Toy Story 3: The Video Game is a platformer developed by Avalanche Software and published by Disney Interactive studios in 2010. The tie-in video game released alongside Pixar’s highly anticipated follow-up to one of their most beloved franchises — Toy Story. The one that started everything for Pixar as the first 3D animated movie theatrically released in 1995 and the sleeker sequel in 1998. Leading to Toy Story 3 in 2010, which made history as the first animated film to gross over a billion dollars at the box office. Toy Story 4 continued to pull on fans’ heartstrings, once again grossing over a billion dollars — opening the door for a spin-off featuring Buzz Lightyear and possibly another sequel, but where have all the Pixar video games gone?
Avalanche Software Disney Games
Toy Story 3: The Video Game isn’t the first Disney related title that Avalanche has developed. Founded in 1995, Avalanche worked on a few other notable games including the home versions of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Rampage 2: Universal Tour, and the Tak and the Power of Juju series. In 2005, Disney Interactive Studios acquired Avalanche as a way of entering the video game industry with their own first-party developer to work on games based on their animated franchises. This set Avalanche Software on a decade-long run of developing Disney video games, starting in 2005 with Chicken Little and ending in 2015 with Disney Infinity 3.0.
