Castle Crashers is a 2D cooperative Beat ‘Em Up game independently developed and published by The Behemoth in 2008 — launching on the Xbox 360 as part of the Xbox Live Summer of Arcade. An annual feature that began in 2008 and ended in 2013 which focused on promoting downloadable titles including Braid, Trials HD, and Limbo to name a few. As one of the most popular titles to come from the summer of arcade, Castle Crashers, became the Behemoth’s biggest seller to date. It also showcased what the Xbox Live Arcade had to offer — creative and affordable, bite-sized downloads.

Castle Crashers sold over 2 million units alone on the Xbox 360 before making its way onto the PlayStation Network in 2010 and Steam in 2012.
Castle Crashers remained as one of the most played XBLA titles years after its release. It ranked 6th in the top 10 XBLA games played in 2012 according to Microsoft. Although the XBLA didn’t return with the launch of the Xbox One in 2013, Castle Crashers rightfully saw a reintroduction with a remastered version on the Xbox One in 2015. Celebrating 10 years of Castle Crashing and a milestone of over 20 million downloads across all platforms, they fully stormed the castle on PS4 and Nintendo Switch in 2019.
